Великобритания продолжает жесткую политику направленную на тех, кто торгует и превышает порог, после которого нужно платить НДС, но при этом не зарегистрировал его. Налоговая инспекция начнет рассылать около 40,000 писем тем, кого касается эта программа. Письма проинформируют бизнесменов, как зарегистрировать и оплатить положенное. Правительство объявило еще в мае, что намерено запустить НДС кампанию этим летом, и это обсуждалось с заинтересованными сторонами. НДС инициатива, стартовавшая 5 июля, намерена стать стимулом для тех, кто не заплатил налоги, и позволит добровольно исправиться.
Ежегодный оборот, выше которого должен оплачиваться и регистрироваться НДС, недавно вырос с 70,000 фунтов до 73,000 фунтов за 2011-2012 финансовый год. По условиям кампании те, кто не зарегистрировался, смогут в любое время до 30 сентября проинформировать налоговую инспекцию о своем желании участвовать в кампании. При полном раскрытии, штраф составит 10% от НДС, уплаченном ранее. Участником кампании предложат так же сообщить о любых других налоговых долгах. Если они заплатят штраф по недекларированному налогу, кроме НДС, сумма будет меньше, чем обычный штраф в 100% для тех, кто не будет участвовать в этой кампании. После 30 сентября налоговая инспекция начнет выявлять тех, кто не принял участие в кампании. Инспекция обратила внимание, что в этом случае будут выставлены дополнительные штрафы, или последуют судебные преследования.
